WHO WE ARE

Rooted in Arkaria. Guided by community.

Arkaria Community Centre exists to support Maasai pastoralist communities as they navigate social, economic, environmental and political change while preserving their cultural identity and traditional knowledge.

OUR STORY

Arkaria Community Impact Centre

For decades, the Centre’s founders and local community members have pursued initiatives aimed at improving education, public health, social justice and environmental outcomes.

The strategic plan records earlier efforts involving education, clean water, income-generating activities, scholarships for girls and community support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The establishment of the Centre was a step towards coordinating these efforts, strengthening partnerships and creating a locally anchored platform for long-term community development.

OUR MISSION

To catalyse radical, positive change within pastoralist communities.

OUR VISION

A Maasai society where people live healthy, dignified and productive lives, with access to the resources and services they need, and a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their communities.

How we work

We bring indigenous and contemporary knowledge together to support practical, locally relevant responses to community challenges. Communities are active participants in defining their priorities, shaping interventions and assessing outcomes.

WHERE WE WORK

Arkaria Village, Monduli District

Our roots are in Arkaria Village, within the wider Monduli area of northern Tanzania. We aim to learn from local initiatives and, over time, extend effective approaches to other pastoralist communities.
