Pastoralism, Land & Environment
We support community-led approaches to sustainable rangeland management, climate resilience and the recognition of pastoralism as a viable livelihood.
OUR STORY
Arkaria Community Impact Centre is a community-rooted initiative based in Arkaria Village, Monduli District, northern Tanzania. We work alongside Maasai pastoralist communities to address the social, economic, environmental and governance challenges affecting their lives.
We believe that meaningful development begins by listening to communities, recognising their knowledge and supporting their ability to determine their own priorities.
Our work brings together Maasai indigenous knowledge, collaborative learning and practical development initiatives to strengthen livelihoods, protect cultural heritage and promote a more just and resilient future.

Our mission is to catalyse radical, positive change within pastoralist communities.
We provide a framework for communities and other stakeholders to work towards shared goals through essential services, community capacity building and advocacy for policies that support pastoralism and good governance.

Maasai pastoralism is more than an economic activity. It is a way of life shaped by relationships between people, livestock, land and the environment.
Yet pastoralist communities face growing pressures, including reduced access to traditional grazing areas, climate variability, limited access to essential services and barriers to participation in decisions affecting their future.
Arkaria works to strengthen community capacity and advance solutions that recognise pastoralism, protect indigenous knowledge and promote dignity, equity and resilience.
A Maasai society in which people are free from poverty, possess the knowledge and skills to live healthy, dignified and productive lives, have access to natural resources and essential social services, and can meaningfully participate in decisions that affect them.
Lasting change requires collaboration. We welcome partnerships with community organisations, educational institutions, researchers, donors and organisations that share our commitment to community-led development.
Help strengthen Pastoralists’ communities through knowledge, collaboration and locally driven solutions.
